CAASPP Letter to FUHSD Community 2017

CHS FBLA attends the California State Leadership Conference

This April the Cupertino FBLA Chapter, led by Erin Song & Jehannaz Dastoor, competed at states. CHS was able to take home many victories including 2nd place at Sweepstakes, 2nd Largest Local Chapter, and Mr. St. John was awarded Best Adviser of the Year. As competition officers, Ruchi Shah, Edward Hsu, and Bhavesh Manivannan were able to assist 40 out of the 80 competitors to qualify to the National Leadership Conference this summer. Additionally, Bhavesh Manivannan and Naren Ramesh were formally inaugurated into Bay Section office to serve as Bay Section Secretary & Treasurer.

Cupertino scientists presented their projects at the Synopsys Science Fair in March.  Awards were announced over spring break; click here to see the many awards won by CHS students.  

Writing for Publication Students featured on NPR's Perspectives

Students in Ms. Rachel Glas' Writing for Publication class submitted projects to KQED's Perspectives. Didem Arslanoglu and Jane Lee were selected by the editor to record theirs for publication. Didem's Perspective titled "From a Brown Girl to Yours Truly", aired on Wednesday, April 5th. Jane's Perspective, "Mirror, Mirror", aired on Wednesday, April 19th. Click on the links to listen/read the work on the KQED Perspectives site.

Students who are interested in taking the Writing for Publication next year, should see Ms. Glas or your counselor.

Hey guys! Tino Stem is having a guest speaker event on Monday, April 24th during lunch in room 508. The speaker Ashutosh Chitwadgi has over 6 years of experience working as a Technical Lead in Threat Response for Palo Alto Networks. This event will be a great opportunity to learn more about the specifics of cyber security and what it takes to succeed in the tech world. Hope to see you all there!

VTA's Summer Youth Pass is your all-access adventure pass! 

Youth 18 and under get unlimited rides on VTA buses and light rail, June through August for just $75, a savings of $60 off the regular price of three monthly youth passes. VTA’s Summer Youth Pass is the perfect way to get to summer jobs, the movies, the mall and all of your favorite places. Summer Youth Passes are valid from June 1 through August 31, 2017.

Hey Tino!

 

Did you know that every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood?

 

Cupertino High School will be having its Spring Blood Drive on Monday April 24. 

 

Students 16 and 17 years old can donate with a signed waiver, and students 18+ can donate without one. Forms (class excusal and signup) are attached and also available in Room 721. Be sure to have these turned in to Room 721 by Wednesday April 19.

Parents and teachers are encouraged to donate as well!

HSA Awards

Each year, Cupertino High School honors individuals from our Community and Staff who represent the best in working for our children, school, and community.

 Some people make very visible contributions while others work quietly behind the scenes. Outstanding contributions are made in the classrooms, office, library, booster clubs, PTA, leading parcel tax efforts, community involvement, School Site Council, the list goes on.

 Do you know of someone who should be recognized? Please take a minute to nominate that deserving person for this year’s Honorary Service Award.

It would be great to have a few parents to oversee the student volunteers in the Canteen / Recover station -- handing out water and snacks, etc.

For convenience we have split this into two shifts with an overlap in time shifts simply to have the first shift instruct the second shift on what to do, if you would like to work the entire day, please click both shifts.

Partnering with the ASB, the Cupertino High PTSA will be sponsoring a fun event that includes Student Performances, Games, Competitions, prizes and free food to foster community, taking responsibility and celebrate arrival of spring for the students.  The event is planned and fully managed by ASB and student volunteers but we need parent volunteers for supervision, support and encourage student during the event.  We’ve set up two shifts 3 – 4:30 & 4:30 – 6 for parents to sign up to help.

Ready to go to college!?!

Hear from Cupertino High alums and parents who will share their experiences and perspectives to ease your transition to college and share approaches that worked well for them. Their insight will hopefully ease any anxiety and prepare you to navigate your new life at college.

Be pro-active and come to hear what to expect, what to do, and other details to help make the transition to college easier for you and your parents! Tips on what to do this summer, what to take for moving day, college life, making friends, finances, keeping in touch, college academics, fitting in, time management, college safety, visiting home, etc. You will get to hear from someone who has been there, done that!

Topics and panel discussion will be facilitated by Syrous Parsay, who has spoken at our Roadmap to College lectures.

Syrous Parsay is a retired inventor and entrepreneur. He frequently lectures on topics such as disruptive technologies, entrepreneurship, science and dimensions of wellness, financial planning, college planning, and more. Mr. Parsay is also a mentor to a broad demographic of individuals from high school students to corporate executives.

Target audience: Seniors and their parents.

The Fremont Union High School District, in partnership with the City of Cupertino Parks & Recreation Department, is pleased to offer summer sessions of the popular College Planning and College Essay Workshops for High School Juniors (class of 2018). The College Planning Workshops, offered on 4 of our campuses and taught by experienced FUHSD Guidance Counselors and College Advisors, will help students to identify goals and plans for college, organize the college search and manage the application process. Students will have several opportunities to work one-on-one with instructors to revise their plans.   The College Essay Workshop, offered at all 5 campuses and taught by FUHSD English teachers, will help students learn about the UC and Common Application essay prompts, select one prompt, and then draft, revise, and finalize one essay.  For more information and to register for a class, please open the documents below.  The deadline for first round of registration is Wednesday, April 26, 2017.  For more information, please contact Josh Maisel, Coordinator of Academic Interventions, at (408)522-2297.

Goodwill Donation Drive - Sunday, March 19 from 10 AM to 4 PM

Get rid of your clutter and help our school at the same time!  

Please drop off your clutter for a good cause!  A truck will be in the

CHS Band parking lot on Sunday, March 19 from 10 AM to 4 PM.

We'll help you unload.  At the end of the day, the truck will be weighed and we will receive a check based on that weight.

What we can take: Books, clothing, shoes, household items, accessories, toys, e-waste, monitors, stereos, VCRs, telephones, and other small electronics.

What we can't take: Large appliances, carpet, food, liquids, weapons, chemicals, pet or medical items, car parts, construction debris (lumber, concrete, bricks, etc), or items weighing more than 50 pounds.

ALL proceeds go to Tino Grad Night 2017! Thank you for your help!
