During the school year, usually at the end of the test of a lesson, you are to pick up a new vocabulary chart for the next lesson. Here are a few things you need to know about how to use the chart.

1. Purpose of the Vocabulary chart:

For your convenience of collecting new words in the current lesson. Please use it as your study guide for the lesson.

2. What to fill in:

Any new word that you see in the lesson should be included in this chart. So, only looking at the vocabulary list for the lesson is not enough as there may be other words that you do not know how to use. If you think you know all the words in the lesson, you are to find ten important words that are about the topic of the current lesson.

3. Due date:

As a study guide, this chart is a working document which shows your learning progress. So, there is no due date. As long as we are working on the lesson this chart is needed. I may check on it at random time, so please be prepared to show me the chart at any class time.

4. Use of a dictionary with Pinyin to find the definition:

When you see a new vocabulary item, check the Pinyin version of the lesson and find out how it is pronounced, get a dictionary in the classroom and find out the meaning based on the pinyin spelling.

5. New word in a sentence:

Please do not copy any sentence from anywhere for this part. It should be a sentence of your own that shows your understanding of the word.

Different class activities will help you further understand the meaning of each word and how to use them. So both the individual work and class work are important in learning new vocabulary. As always, when you have any questions about anything we are doing in class, please let me know and I will help you.
